Phoenix Film is an independent film production and co-production company, established in 1997 and owned by private Danish foundation – The Film Furtherance Foundation. The main focus of Phoenix Film is to act as lead or co-producer of top quality European film productions building on the long tradition of European film art.
ERIC ABRAHAM (PRODUCER)
Eric Abraham is a film, television and theatre producer, best known for producing Jan Sverak’s Academy Award(R) and Golden Globe-winning film KOLYA (Best Foreign Language Film, 1996). A South African-born former journalist and human rights activist, he became a producer of BBC TV’s PANORAMA before forming his own production company, Portobello Pictures (London) and now Phoenix Film (Copenhagen). He produced a number of acclaimed television dramas including John le Carre’s A MURDER OF QUALITY and the BBC TV’s primetime crime series DALZIEL & PASCOE.
Films he produced include Roald Dahl’s DANNY THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, with Jeremy Irons; Jan Svěrák’s films DARK BLUE WORLD, EMPTIES AND KOOKY; Tim Roth’s THE WAR ZONE; Jez Butterworth’s MOJO; Jiri Menzel’s Russian language – THE LIFE AND EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURES OF PRIVATE IVAN CHONKIN; and Joshua Marston’s Albanian language – THE FORGIVENESS OF BLOOD. In 2009 he commissioned Pawel Pawlikowski to write IDA. He is a member of AMPAS, BAFTA and the European and Czech film academies.
CHRISTIAN FALKENBERG HUSUM (MANAGING DIRECTOR)
Christian Falkenberg Husum has been managing director of Phoenix Film since 2006. Originally an entertainment attorney, Christian is probably best known for his involvement as Co-producer of Pawel Pawlikowski’s appraised and award winning IDA, Christian has further been a Co-producer on Oscar winning director Jan Sveraks THREE BROTHERS and worked on the legal and financing side of a number of motion pictures including Jan Sveraks EMPTIES and Joshua Marstons THE FORGIVENESS OF BLOOD. Christian is also head of our sales arm Portobello Film Sales, where he has sold IDA to more than 50 territories. Christian graduated his MSC Law from the Copenhagen University in 2000. In 2008 Christian completed the EAVE (European Audio Video Entrepreneurs) Programme. Christian is an external lecturer at the Copenhagen University Film and Media Dept. and a frequent speaker in the World of Entertainment and especially film
